Academy Director Thomas Kruecken was full of praise for City’s Elite Development Squad after the team confirmed top spot of the Premier League 2 ahead of the playoffs.
City's 4-0 victory on Monday evening ensured our place at the summit with a total points tally of 47, the highest a team has achieved in the new format of the competition.
Our EDS side also scored an impressive 61 goals and conceded just 23 in what has been a fantastic outing in the competition so far.
Now our attention turns to our Round of 16 fixture, which will be played on the weekend of 25/26 April. Our opponents for the clash will be confirmed on Friday 18 April when all teams have completed Gameweek 20.
After topping the PL2 table, Ben Wilkinson's side will host all of our playoff fixtures on home soil, starting with our clash against the team who places 16th in the league standings.
Before then, reflecting on Monday night's achievement, Kruecken said: “Tonight marks a fantastic achievement not just for our EDS squad but for the Academy as a whole.
“The PL2 is an extremely competitive league, so to confirm our place at the top before the knockout stage is something Ben, his staff and all the players should be incredibly proud of. Not only have they finished top, they have played outstanding football along the way.
“It’s been a pleasure to watch this team develop over the course of the campaign and I can’t wait to continue supporting the team in the knockout stage.”
