During a Serie A game on Saturday, Udinese fans allegedly directed racist chants at AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, leading him to walk off the field. As a result, the match was briefly suspended in the first half.
On separate occasions, Maignan notified the referee of the alleged racial abuse. After Milan scored to secure a 1-0 lead, Maignan signaled his teammates to halt, approached the referee, and headed to the sideline before the goal kick.
Before that incident, Maignan informed the referee about monkey chants earlier in the match, leading to an announcement in the stadium urging fans to stop the behavior.
Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé went on X, formerly Twitter, to send a message of support to his teammate on the French national team.
“You are far from being alone, Mike Maignan,” Mbappé wrote on the platform. “We are all with you—always the same problems and still no solution. Enough is enough!!!!!!!!!!!! No to racism.”
About five minutes after the suspension, Maignan and his teammates returned, and AC Milan ultimately secured a 3-2 victory in the game.
