Kylian Mbappé scored his 17th and 18th World Cup goals against Sweden on Tuesday night, moving past Miroslav Klose and closing to within one of Lionel Messi.
As reported by L'Équipe, the long distance race between Mbappé and Messi continues at pace.
He had drawn level with Klose last Monday with a brace against Iraq.
The France captain then struck in the 45th and 74th minutes against Sweden to reach 18 in as many World Cup matches, with four in 2018, eight in 2022 and already six in 2026. Klose now sits third on the all-time list with 16.
Messi has set the record at 19 thanks to his six goals at this edition, and could still improve it in the round of 32 against Cape Verde, scheduled in the night from Friday to Saturday, at midnight in France.
The Argentinian is at his sixth World Cup, while Mbappé is contesting his third.
