Kylian Mbappé responded on Monday on X to racist remarks from Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla, calling her contemptible and unfit for office.
In his post, he said her unapologetic racism and lack of awareness had eclipsed the historic effort and journey made by Paraguay’s players at the World Cup, leaving the country represented by an incompetent woman.
Amarilla, a member of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party, had targeted the France captain with her comments.
In a statement issued on Monday, the French Football Federation said it would seek legal action over the remarks, describing them as totally abject and unacceptable and asking how such words could be uttered.
The federation added that the comments were criminal and punishable, and that it is reporting the matter to the public prosecutor to pursue proceedings.
It also said the case should be pursued both in France and elsewhere.
