According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid’s medical team examined the wrong knee while assessing Kylian Mbappe’s recent injury, a claim that has prompted fresh scrutiny at the club.

The Athletic reports the episode occurred in December, with initial tests finding nothing amiss, and that he played three more matches before realising the mistake.

Mbappe underwent repeated assessments at Valdebebas and, though the issue was initially viewed as minor, he travelled to France for a second opinion. The situation was then clarified to the 27-year-old.

The forward had struggled with a knee problem for a couple of months and paused his involvement in December and February. He returned before the international break after three weeks out and now appears back to full fitness.

The Spanish report added that Mbappe was unhappy with the handling of the case, describing the error as huge and a humiliation for Real Madrid, and suggested the worst had been avoided.

Real Madrid will welcome his return, but the stories surrounding the episode are likely to deepen concern over their medical department, which has faced criticism in recent years.
