French superstar limped off against Arsenal and will not face Getafe in final match before all-Clasico Copa del Rey showpiece
Kylian Mbappe is expected to be fit for Real Madrid’s huge Copa del Rey final showdown with arch-rivals Barcelona this weekend.
The French superstar sparked fresh injury fears after limping off late on in last week’s Champions League quarter-final second-leg defeat at home by Arsenal, having hurt his ankle while making a challenge on Gunners midfielder Declan Rice.
Mbappe received treatment on the pitch and was unable to continue as he was replaced by Brahim Diaz with 15 minutes to go in a 2-1 loss at the Bernabeu that sealed an emphatic 5-1 defeat on aggregate for the stunned holders to heap the pressure on manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The 26-year-old would not have been available for Real Madrid’s next match against Athletic Club anyway, having been handed a one-match LaLiga suspension after being sent off for a woeful challenge on Alaves midfielder Antonio Blanco during the first half of last week’s 1-0 win at Mendizorrotza.

But reports that emerged quickly after the Arsenal game stated that Mbappe had been diagnosed with a right ankle sprain, with the injury not thought to be too serious or threatening his availability for the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona in Seville on April 26.
And while Real Madrid’s marquee summer signing and top scorer will not feature again during Wednesday night’s short trip to face Getafe in LaLiga, the under-fire Ancelotti has now confirmed that he should be ready for a major showdown between Clasico rivals at the Estadio La Cartuja de Sevilla on Saturday evening.
It is the same case for Mbappe’s club and international team-mate Ferland Mendy, with the left-back having been absent since the dramatic second leg of the Champions League 16-tie against Atletico Madrid last month with a muscle issue.
“Mbappe and Mendy? They're not ready for tomorrow's game, but I think they will be available for the Copa del Rey final,” Ancelotti said at his pre-Getafe press conference on Tuesday.
Not only do Real Madrid face Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final this weekend, the clubs also lock horns in LaLiga in Catalonia on May 11 - a match that could prove decisive in a dramatic LaLiga title race, which Barca still lead by four points with six games to go after recovering from 3-1 down to beat Celta Vigo 4-3 at home on Saturday courtesy of a 98th-minute penalty from Raphinha.
Defending champions Real Madrid were then close to falling six points behind on Sunday evening before Federico Valverde popped up with an emphatic stoppage-time goal to see off stubborn Athletic at the Bernabeu.
Along with Mbappe and Mendy, Los Blancos also remain without long-term defensive absentees Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal, though the latter continues to step up his recovery from a serious knee injury and was spotted on Tuesday resuming ball work during a training session.
