Real Madrid centre-forward Kylian Mbappé (26) lost six kilos (13 pounds) as a result of food poisoning, according to a report from L’Equipe. The France captain will reunite with his former PSG teammates this Wednesday for the Club World Cup semi-final. Mbappé may not start for Xabi Alonso’s Merengues as he continues to recover from a serious case of food poisoning.
The outlet adds that Mbappé was already feeling mild symptoms before embarking on the plane that carried Real Madrid players to Miami. The pain was reportedly tolerable and the centre-forward thought it would pass. It didn’t, and the situation worsened to the point that Mbappé suffered from dehydration. The Frenchman was not part of the matchday squad that drew against Al-Ahli and, at the game’s half-time, Real Madrid’s medical staff warned Mbappé’s entourage that he needed to be taken to a nearby hospital.
Real Madrid feared Mbappé, exhausted and put on a drip, was suffering from appendicitis. Eventually, medical exams carried out revealed that the Real Madrid goalscored suffered a serious case of food poisoning, probably linked to a bacteria present in poultry. Even after leaving the hospital, Mbappé continued to shed some weight, losing six kilos in total.
