Supporters of La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Saturday evening moved to lavish praise on a member of the club’s backline.

The player in question? Raúl Asencio.

Real Madrid were of course back in action a short time ago, making the trip to Villarreal for a crunch clash amid the ongoing race for the Spanish top-flight title.

When all was said and done, Los Blancos emerged on the right side of a 2-0 result.

Kylian Mbappé proved himself the star of the show on the evening, netting both of the visitors’ goals to continue his spectacular individual season.

As alluded to above, though, throughout the clash, another less high-profile member of Álvaro Arbeloa’s squad was also singled out for widespread acclaim.

Back in from the off at La Cerámica, Raúl Asencio carried forth his own stellar spell of individual form on Saturday.

Barely putting a foot wrong all evening, the young Spaniard was a rock at the back for Real Madrid, limiting Villarreal to only a couple of clear-cut chances.

This came despite Asencio dealing with an injury problem at present, a testament to both the talents and commitment of Los Blancos’ defensive standout.
