Despite hinting at changes in his pre-match press conference, Ange Postecoglou rather fielded a strong Celtic lineup this afternoon in the Scottish Cup 4th Round contest against Greenock Morton. It was always going to be a stroll in the park for the Bhoys who dominated the show en route to scripting a 5-0 victory.
Below are the Celtic players rated in their commanding win against Greenock Morton.
Joe Hart: 7
Made some routine saves between the sticks. A fourth successive clean sheet for the Englishman who is yet to concede a goal since the Old Firm derby.
Alistair Johnston: 7.5
Lively down the right-hand side with persistent overlapping runs and link-up play with fellow teammates high up the pitch.
Yuki Kobayashi: 8
Another resilient performance from the young Japanese centre-half who not only maintained his composure at the back but also played his part in the build-up of Mooy’s second in the closing minutes of the match.
Carl Starfelt: 7.5
Was hardly troubled by the opponents as he did his best to play it out from the back alongside Kobayashi. Made way for Bosun Lawal in the closing minutes.
Alexandro Bernabei: 8
Relentless down the left with his marauding runs, crosses, cut insides and passes into the final third. Created an array of chances for the Hoops, and therefore, cemented his place amid Greg Taylor’s injury absence.
Commanded the midfield game with little pressure from the visitors. Pulled the strings from his deep-lying role, and also used the space in front of him to operate in the advanced areas. Was replaced by debutant Tomoki Iwata at half-time.
Aaron Mooy
Aaron Mooy: 8.5
Opened the scoring from the spot and wrapped it up in style to make it 5-0 minutes before the final whistle. Was denied by the woodwork early into the second half.
David Turnbull: 8
Made the opportunity count with a trademark goal from 22 yards out. Forced Brian Schwake to make a save minutes after the break. Was taken off for Matt O’Riley with 15 minute remaining.
Liel Abada: 7.5
Came close to finding the net on a number of occasions. Although he could not make it to the scoresheet, the young Israeli winger contributed to the build-ups of Kyogo’s second and Turnbull’s stellar strike. Was replaced by James Forrest around the hour mark.
Daizen Maeda:7
Worked hard down the flanks and kept on creating chances with his layoffs and cutbacks. Could not beat Schwake in Morton goal despite coming close time and again.
Kyogo Furuhashi: 8.5
Was taken off at half-time, but he ran riot throughout the first half with two goals and one assist before making way for Sead Haksabanovic.
Tomoki Iwata: 7
A good half of football for the winter recruit who holds all the traits to continue as the understudy to McGregor.
Sead Haksabanovic: 7.5
Set it up perfectly for Mooy who made it 5-0 for the hosts. Looked impressive with his movements down the wide.
James Forrest: 6.5
Enjoyed his time on the pitch, however, should have done more in terms of offering his creativity.
Matt O’Riley: 7
Controlled the midfield game with ease. Made down-the-middle runs and used his vision to stretch the game on the wide.
