Kyogo Furuhashi is reportedly keen on a return to Celtic. The Japanese striker left Celtic in January 2025 in a deal that saw Jota return to Glasgow’s East End; however, neither the move to Rennes nor the subsequent switch to Birmingham have been successful for the forward.
Now reports in Japan state that Birmingham are set to move on the striker with the 31-year-old eager to make the move back to Paradise.
According to Qoly, Kyogo wants to make the return to Celtic, despite seemingly having had the chance to go back in January.
There would be a degree of hesitancy at bringing back Kyogo, given how his career has panned out since leaving Celtic. However, his quality is not in dispute nor is his ability to score in Scotland. If the deal was there to be completed then it would be well received, even if wider questions remained regarding Celtic’s transfer planning.

Kyogo was signed by Celtic in 2021 as one of Ange Postecoglou’s first since assuming control at Celtic Park. It was an inspired signing and the striker would net 85 goals and assist 19 times across 165 appearances for Celtic.
In 2024, it was reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano that Pep Guardiola’s Man City were considering the Japanese striker with a fee of £15m suggested for the player. No move came to fruition but a number of links followed, suggesting that the player was keen on an exit. This was probably expected after the player switched agents, likely with a view to taking a swing at the Premier League.
Japanese Bhoys Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda are expected to move on this summer. Premier League clubs are interested in Maeda while Hatate is attracting interest from Championship side West Ham.
Celtic have only made one summer signing, Camilo Duran from Qarabag. The attacker is expected to lead the line and compete off the wing, similar to Maeda but the manager has made it clear that he wants more signings and more firepower.
