Former Celtic Assistant Manager Chris Davies, now boss at Birmingham City, has confirmed that ex-Celtic talisman Kyogo is finally going under the knife to get his troublesome shoulder problem sorted once and for all…

The issue with his shoulder has been something that Kyogo has been managing for years, as it dates back to his youth as a competitive swimmer back home in Japan. After making huge impact at Celtic coming in in August 2021 as an Ange Postecoglou signing, Kyogo moved to French side Rennes in January 2025 as he eyed a place in this summer’s Japan squad for the World Cup.

Things went particularly badly in France for Kyogo and Chris Davies ended that by bringing him to his newly promoted Birmingham City as he geared up for this season’s Championship campaign.

Kyogo has scored just three goals at Birmingham having drawn a complete blank in French football, and he missed Birmingham’s 1-0 defeat at Blackburn on Friday. Later Davies explained Kyogo’s absence by revealing that the 31 year-old Japanese striker is now finally addressing his shoulder injury.

“Kyogo is out for the season. He’s had his shoulder operated on, which was an ongoing thing that he kept trying to put off. In the end we decided to get it done and then he’s back for pre-season,” Chris Davies said.

Meanwhile Daizen Maeda is set to release his autobiography next month which will tell the story of the Celtic star’s career in Japan then in Scotland with Celtic after arriving in the January 2022 transfer window alongside Reo Hatate.

The book will be published in Japan and will cost roughly £8.35. It’s only available in Japanese but there will be translations organised.

“This is the first autobiography of Japan national football team player Daizen Maeda,” a description of the book reads on the publishing website Gentosha Library. “Daizen Maeda is active not only at his club Celtic but also with the Japan national team.

“However, his career has not always been smooth sailing. He started playing football not early, in the fourth grade of elementary school, and in high school, he was expelled from the club due to ‘a certain incident’.

“Even after turning professional, things were not always smooth sailing, and there were days when he didn’t want to go to practice. No matter how many times he stumbled, he overcame the obstacle each time. And there were always people around him who supported him.

“To repay the kindness of those who supported him, he continues to run relentlessly.

“This is the first time that Japan national team forward Daizen Maeda reveals the countless setbacks he faced and the battle to rise above them.”
