Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy is still in active discussions with Borussia Dortmund legend Marco Reus with the team hopeful of reaching a deal, according to Tom Bogert.

Reus was first linked with a move to Major League Soccer back in May. Bogert, formerly of The Athletic, reported at the beginning of June that LA Galaxy reached a deal to acquire Reus' discovery rights from Charlotte FC as advanced talks continued. According to his latest report, the two sides remain engaged in talks with the team hopeful of reaching a deal.

There is a caveat with Reus potentially signing with Galaxy: the team is already at the maximum amount of Designated Players. Each MLS team is allowed three DP slots on their roster allowing said players an uncapped wage. Riqui Puig, Gabriel Pec, and Joseph Paintsil already occupy the slots meaning Reus would not make more than around $1.7 million this year. Charlotte FC could've offered Reus more money, but according to Bogert the player wants the Galaxy move if he does come to the United States.

If Reus wanted a more lucrative move, there are other options available including offers from Middle Eastern clubs.

How would Marco Reus fit in at LA Galaxy?

LA Galaxy is currently third in the MLS Western Conference equal on points with Real Salt Lake albeit with an extra game played. The Gs have won five of its last six MLS matches with the only loss coming to LAFC is a tightly contested El Trafico.

The Bundesliga legend could play anywhere across the front line either as a starter or a potent option off the bench. Riqui Puig has made the 10 role his own this year and has been one of the stars of this year's squad next to Pec and Paintsil. Reus also provides a ton of leadership and experience for team looking to win its first MLS Cup since 2014.

LA Galaxy reportedly are targeting former Borussia Dortmund player and current FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski for next year's transfer window.

The same issues around DP slots remains if Lewandowski is a primary target for next year, but landing Reus could go a long way at convincing the Polish international to move to MLS. The prospect of reuniting him with Reus would be a tantalizing one.
