Two of the lowest scoring teams in the MLS Western Conference faced off against each on Saturday. Midway through the second half, it appeared that the Los Angeles Galaxy was poised to earn their first regular season victory over St. Louis City SC.

Earlier in the year, the 2023 newcomers to the league won 3-0 at Dignity Health Sports Park. The three-goal output from St. Louis would end up being 20% of their first-half goals.

Neither team struggled to score on Saturday, however, as both teams netted a trio of goals.

What the LA Galaxy did to almost win against St. Louis City SC?

Two weeks after winning against Real Salt Lake, 2-0, the Los Angeles Galaxy were well on their way to winning consecutive games for the first time in 2025.

After a stalemate of 35 minutes, João Klauss broke the scoreless tie and put St. Louis up early 1-0. The man who scored the LA Galaxy's first goal of the season found the back of the net six minutes later to retie the game.

Klauss added his second goal early in the second half. Fortunately for the defending MLS Cup champions, young sensation Matheus Nascimento recorded his first goal of the year in the 51st minute.

"For me, very disappointed about the result, and also disappointed about how we concede goals. We had the chance to create much much much more chances, opportunities, creating chances but we was a little bit slow in the build up sometimes because when there are -- two pivots from them was pushing up and most of the time, the guy was free and it was hard to find him."Marco Reus, LA Galaxy midfielder

Marco Reus was credited with his second assist of the game. Pec then shot from the center of the box with success. He put the LA Galaxy up 3-2 in the 87th minute.

The LA Galaxy beat St. Louis City SC in many categories on Saturday. Pec and Company held a slight advantage in possession (52.4%) as well as shot attempts (15) and corner kicks (5).

Unfortunately, the last place team in the MLS Western Conference showed why they struggle to win games once again.

Where it went wrong for the LA Galaxy again?

Another goal in stoppage time was allowed by the Los Angeles Galaxy. With a 3-2 lead late in the second half, all the defending champions had to due was defend.

Instead, João Klauss completed his hat trick and scored his third goal on the day in the third minute of stoppage time of the second half.

"There's a lot of things there that are challenging, and we still put ourselves in position to win but given what we're trying to do in terms of learning to put results and points on the board and being better in that regard, it definitely feels like two lost at the end. The guys are definitely frustrated from that side of things."Greg Vanney, head coach of the LA Galaxy

That meant that both teams would only add one point to the MLS Western Conference standings. Whereas had the LA Galaxy held on for the win, they would have added another three points while St. Louis City remained at 14.

Of the three teams with less than 20 points in the Western Conference standings (St. Louis, Sporting Kansas City, and Real Salt Lake), the LA Galaxy have gone just 1-1-3 in five games. A home game against Sporting remains on the schedule at the end of September.
