La Liga announce USA fixture between Villarreal and Barcelona is now confirmed | OneFootball

It’s official: the La Liga match between Villarreal and Barcelona will be played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, USA.

La Liga has been pushing to host a match in the United States for several years, but on occasions in 2023 and 2024, they did not receive the required approval for the event to become a reality. However, the case is different in 2025.

Earlier this week, UEFA reluctantly gave their approval for the match to take place, which meant that only FIFA’s sign-off was needed. And although it has not officially arrived, La Liga president Javier Tebas has now announced that the match between Villarreal and Barcelona will take place in Miami, as per Marca.

“Except for a small formal issue, the process is already finished. We can say that on Saturday, December 20, an official La Liga match, Villarreal-Barcelona, will be played in Miami, a match with points at stake. Instead of being played at the Estadio de la Cerámica in Villarreal, it will be played at the Hard Rock Stadium.”

Tebas confirms La Liga plans to promote match in the USA

Tebas also revealed that La Liga will be heading over to the United States in the weeks before the Villarreal-Barcelona match, as they seek to promote themselves and the fixture itself.

“We are going to go over four or five weeks before the sporting event, and we are going to publicise the things that La Liga does – from our league for the disabled, the clubs with their ambassadors… We are going to reach various cities in the United States to make ourselves known much more.”
