La Liga has condemned racist abuse directed at Real Madrid forward Vinicius, issued the day after Madrid lost 3-2 at Albacete in the Copa del Rey last 16.
The league said in a social media post that it condemns all racist insults and that there is no place for hate on or off the pitch, adding it stands with Vinicius and promoting its anti-racism slogan.
A video showed a group of Albacete supporters gathered outside the Carlos Belmonte stadium before the match chanting racist songs at the Brazilian. After the home side’s win, a banana skin was thrown towards Vinicius, narrowly missing him.
It is not the first time Vinicius has been targeted in Spain. In May 2025, five Valladolid supporters were sentenced to one year in prison for insults aimed at him in December 2022, a ruling La Liga described at the time as historic.
A month later, four members of the Frente Atlético group who had hung an effigy wearing his shirt before a January 2023 derby received prison terms ranging from 14 to 22 months. They later reached an agreement that converted the sentences, including into fines.
