La Liga denounces disrespectful chants faced by Real Madrid and players at San Mames | OneFootball

A lot unfolded on the field when Real Madrid took on Athletic Club last night at the San Mames – both on the field as well as off it.

While Los Blancos dominated on the field and took home all three points rather comfortably, the events that unfolded on the stands were not particularly memorable.

After all, a sect of the fans in the stands crossed several boundaries by jeering at Real Madrid and specific players like Vinicius Jr and Raul Asencio, as confirmed in an official report filed by La Liga denouncing the chants, as per Mundo Deportivo.

Numerous instances

As included by the official body in its report, several local fans began the game with chants of ‘Wh**e Real Madrid, Wh**e Real Madrid’ in just the first minute of the game

The same chants were followed up with a repetition three minutes later, at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second.

A second set of chants specifically targeted Vinicius and included shouts calling him a ‘Fool, silly’ and even of ‘Vinicius subnormal’. The clearly racist chants were heard thrice, at minutes 19, 57, and 76.

The next player who was abused by fans openly was Raul Asencio, who ironically did not start and only arrived as a substitute in the 55th minute. It was precisely when he came on that jeers arrived, specifically stating, ‘Asencio die, Asencio r*pist.’

Athletic Club was immediately made aware of the unruly developments in the stands and even sent out a prompt message via the video scoreboard in both Basque and Spanish to refrain from offensive chants and respect the players on the field.

It remains to be seen what action is taken on the development, especially given how it is not the first time Real Madrid and the team’s players are facing such a situation. The consequences, needless to say, must be grave.
