This result, their third consecutive stalemate in La Liga, carries heavy consequences: FC Barcelona retakes the top spot, Villarreal closes to within a point, and Atlético Madrid sits just two points behind. Internal tensions and fiery accusations

According to the Spanish press, the atmosphere within both the locker room and the club offices is tense. Meetings held between Florentino Pérez, the coaching staff, and the players have done little to change the situation. Xabi Alonso, frequently targeted by sections of the media and fans, still enjoys strong backing from the club’s leadership. Officially, the club blames their poor run on repeated refereeing mistakes. On their official channel, Real Madrid vehemently denounced referee Mr. De Burgos:

"Mr. De Burgos made blatant and unjustifiable errors against Real Madrid. (…) La Liga is corrupt. (…) There is irregularity because VAR doesn’t intervene. This happened in Vallecas and now in Girona."

Xabi Alonso steps in and piles on the pressure

Echoing his manager, the Merengues continue to fume over a late penalty not awarded to Rodrygo. Xabi Alonso, while refusing to blame his players, shared the widespread frustration:

"I have no complaints about my players. (…) It’s surprising that VAR didn’t review the incident. It was an action that should have been looked at. (…) I was told there was contact."
