As we head into the second international break of the season, Spain will be looking to continue their momentum in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
This window could have been a special one for Joan Garcia, who could have gotten his maiden call-up had it not been for an unfortunate injury.
To that end, Spain’s current goalkeeper Unai Simon talked about Joan Garcia in a recent press conference, where he also criticised La Liga’s idea to hold a match in Miami.
La Liga confirmed yesterday that Barcelona will take on Villarreal on December 20 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, marking the first time a league match will be played outside of Spain.
Simon, who is an Athletic Club goalkeeper, is not totally on board with the idea, even accusing La Liga of adulterating the competition.
“Villarreal and Barcelona have put money ahead of their fans. This harms the fans and adulterates the competition,” he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

“It won’t be played on a neutral field because more than half of the stadium will be Barcelona’s,” he added.
Simon was also asked about Joan Garcia and why he has yet to make his debut with the Spanish national team.
While Simon acknowledged Garcia’s performances, he argued that Robert Sanchez also deserves a chance.
“Joan Garcia not called up by Spain yet? He is doing very well, but by the same rule of thumb, Robert Sanchez should come in too,” he said.
“If Joan comes in, one of us will have to leave. But Remiro and David are doing great, and I think I’m doing well too,” he concluded.
