Barça Athletic’s latest signing, David Oduro, has expressed his admiration for Alejandro Balde, stating that he sees the Barcelona first-team player as a role model.

Oduro is eager to learn as much as possible from Balde and is determined to make the most of his time at the club after completing his permanent transfer.

“My role model is Alejandro Balde. I want to learn many things from him,” he said in an interview with Sporty TV.

Just last month, Oduro made history as the first player to be signed directly from Ghana to Barcelona. His transfer marks a significant step in his career, with the 18-year-old securing a three-year contract with the Blaugrana.

This move ends his spell at Accra Lions, a club in the Ghana Premier League where he developed his skills before catching the eye of European scouts.

Before sealing his deal with Barcelona, Oduro also had trials with English side Chelsea and German club Bayer Leverkusen, showcasing his potential to other major European teams. However, it was the opportunity at Barcelona that truly captured his interest.

During the interview, the young left-back was asked about his goals now that he has arrived in Spain. Oduro was clear about his intentions, saying,

“This is the time for me to work hard, this is not the time to sleep. I have to work extra hard to be able to play in the first team.”

He also outlined his ambitions, explaining that his ultimate targets are to play for Barcelona’s first team, compete in the Champions League, and represent the Ghana national team.

“The aim is to play in the first team, the Champions League and then also for the Ghana national team.”

Why Barcelona?

One of the major factors behind Oduro’s decision to join Barcelona was the club’s style of play. He revealed that he had visited the club and was impressed by their footballing philosophy.

“I love their style of play. I went there [to see it], I love the project and I can’t wait to get there and get started.”

Oduro will begin his career at Barça Athletic, where he will be accompanied by fellow Ghanaian Abdul Aziz Issah, who has joined the club on loan from Dreams FC. Together, they aim to make their mark and push for opportunities at the highest level.
