LAFC 3-0 Cruz Azul

LAFC made a major statement in North America, thrashing Liga MX side Cruz Azul in the first-leg of the quarter-final Tuesday evening.

The MLS outfit are keen on becoming a dominant force in the region, and wins like this will certainly help them on their way.

The scoring was opened by, who else, but Son Heung-min in the first 30 minutes and the hosts rolled from there.

A David Martínez brace was the icing on the cake for LAFC, and perhaps will be enough to see them through to the semi-finals.

The second of his two goals was a superb solo effort.

Cruz Azul will have quite a mountain climb when the tie switches back to Mexico next week.

Nashville 0-0 Club América

Liga MX giants Club América secured a goalless draw in Nashville against one of the hottest teams in MLS currently.

There were few major scoring chances over the 90 minutes in truth, though Nashville striker Sam Surridge felt his side should have been given a penalty in the second-half after being taken down in the box.

While América will feel buoyed by taking the tie back to the Estadio Azteca in the second-leg, they leave themselves in a potentially perilous position having failed to snag an away goal on the night.
