LaLiga’s winter window passed with minimal fuss, only 44 top-flight registrations and little appetite for risk. Atlético Madrid were the exception, stirring a flat market as most clubs stayed frugal.
According to AS, spending hit €74.9 million, up €43.8 million on last January with 14 more arrivals, yet still short of 2017-18 (€288.2m) and 2019-20 (€130.6m). Sales brought in €99.5 million, leaving a €24.6 million surplus as clubs save for summer.
Atlético again headlined the window, this time under Mateu Alemany’s targeted plan. They spent €54 million on three, after €176 million in summer, signing Lookman from Atalanta for €35 million, Rodrigo Mendoza from Elche and Vargas from MLS, with late deals funded by earlier exits.
Those exits included Gallagher for €40 million, the priciest LaLiga sale, plus Raspadori for €23 million and Galán for €0.5 million. Eleven other clubs spent, four more than last winter, but with modest sums by big-league standards. Osasuna were next biggest at €5.5 million on Moro from Ajax and Galán from Atlético.
Barcelona added only João Cancelo on a free. Exits included Ter Stegen to Girona and academy product Dro to PSG, a departure felt more for the future than the present in Flick’s squad. Real Madrid made no signings despite a managerial change, the only LaLiga club without a new registration, and sent Endrick to Lyon for minutes.
