Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi become third and fourth youngest World Cup final starters

Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi made history on Sunday, starting Spain’s 2026 World Cup final against Argentina as the third and fourth youngest players to start a World Cup final.

According to L'Équipe, the La Masia graduates, both born in 2007, rose quickly at Barcelona before establishing themselves with Spain.

Yamal, a right winger aged 19 years and six days, won his 32nd cap. Cubarsi, a centre-back aged 19 years and 178 days, made his 19th appearance for La Roja.

Pelé remains out in front, having played his first final at 17 years and 249 days in 1958. Giuseppe Bergomi is second at 18 years and 201 days in 1982.

The Barcelona pair sit ahead of Kylian Mbappé, who started France’s 2018 triumph against Croatia, 4-2, at 19 years and 207 days.
