Lamine Yamal chasing another Barcelona record after matching Messi feat | OneFootball

Lamine Yamal has barely given La Liga defences time to breathe this season. 

The Barcelona forward has already scored six times across the opening five league matches, including three braces, and his latest double against Levante has put him alongside Lionel Messi in a remarkable 21st-century record.

As such, no player other than Messi and Yamal has managed three braces across the first five rounds of LaLiga during this century. 

Messi achieved the feat in the 2012–13 campaign, and now Barcelona’s current No. 10 has matched him.

Yamal has found another level in front of goal

His latest two-goal display against Levante has extended an already remarkable scoring run.

Before that game, Yamal had scored twice against Rayo Vallecano, twice against Valencia and once against Feyenoord in the Champions League.

That means the teenager has now scored in four successive official matches. Racing Santander are next, with Barcelona facing them on Wednesday.

Hence, one more goal would take Yamal into a territory he has never reached before in his career: five consecutive competitive appearances with a goal.

Sure, it is another individual milestone, but there is little sense that Yamal is chasing records for their own sake. 

His recent performances have made scoring feel like a natural extension of the influence he already has on Barcelona’s attack.

Yamal has already equalled a record associated with one of Barcelona’s greatest-ever players, and now he has the chance to establish a personal best of his own.

At 19, the Barcelona forward is entering another season in which expectations around him have grown considerably. Yet his response has been to keep producing.

The sequence against Rayo, Valencia, Feyenoord and Levante has also shown different sides of his attacking game. 

Notably, he has not simply relied on one type of finish or one type of opportunity; he has repeatedly found ways to influence the scoreboard.

Racing therefore arrive with a clear problem: stop a player who has scored in four straight matches and already produced three LaLiga braces before the campaign has even reached the sixth round.
