Lamine Yamal has ensured that he is a major part of the Clasico build-up, following his comments this week, and has continued to wind up Real Madrid ahead of the game on Sunday. The 18-year-old, who was racially abused by Real Madrid fans at the Bernabeu last year, is likely to be the villain in the Spanish capital on Sunday.
The teenage superstar raised the temperature of El Clasico on Thursday night after commenting that Real Madrid ‘rob [games, decisions], they complain, they do… things’. A statement that has received a considerable backlash in Spain, and Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal is reportedly set to take the matter into his own hands.
Before big matches, it is not uncommon for Lamine Yamal to build the tension with his social media activity. In a video that shows Lamine Yamal playing as a kid, and then as an adult, a narration reads the following, showing images of him and his friends, through to his major victories as a professional.
“The player who comes from the neighborhood does not compete for fame, he competes for the future. The real pressure is not in the stadium, it is in the eyes of those who never stopped believing. When he scores, he does not celebrate for ego, he celebrates because he knows that that goal can change everything”
Earlier this week when asked about Barcelona’s chances ahead of El Clasico, he reminded that the Blaugrana won the same fixture 4-0 last season. During that game, Lamine Yamal, alongside Alejandro Balde, Raphinha and Ansu Fati, were racially abused by Real Madrid fans, and the Spain international also posted an image on his story of himself blurred, with some of that abuse in focus from the Bernabeu stands.
