Lamine Yamal was one of the Barcelona players who shone the brightest in the team’s La Liga clash against Elche last night, even taking home the Player of the Match award.
The youngster, after all, was not only the team’s most important player in the final third but also the creator-in-chief, racking up as many as eight key passes against Eder Sarabia’s side.
The highlight of his game, needless to say, was the goal he scored as he calmly took the ball around the keeper and neatly finished it to hand Barcelona the early lead on the night.
Yamal’s goal against Elche last night was his 38th for Barcelona – a number that just puts into perspective how special the teenage star is.
His goal on the night, in fact, helped him reach level terms with one of the greatest players of all time in terms of goals scored for Barcelona.
Indeed, Yamal’s strike at Estadio Martinez Valero helped him equal the great Diego Maradona’s goal tally for Barcelona. The Argentine star scored 38 goals across all competitions for Barcelona during his time at the club.

For Yamal to equal the World Cup winner and club legend’s record at just 18 years of age, needless to say, is close to unbelievable.
The goal was Yamal’s ninth in La Liga this season, but he also has three goals to his name in the UEFA Champions League and one in the Copa del Rey. His total tally for the season, thus, rests at 13 with the remaining coming from previous seasons.
In the 2024-25 campaign, the prodigal winger scored nine times in La Liga, five times in the UCL and twice each in the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
The season before that saw him rack up five goals in the league and one each in the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
In all, Lamine now has 38 official first-team goals for Barcelona in 134 matches – the same number that Maradona managed during his time at the club, albeit in only 58 games.
