Lamine Yamal suffered a left hamstring injury after scoring the penalty in Barcelona's 1-0 win over Celta de Vigo, prompting concern for Spain ahead of the World Cup.

The club said in a statement that tests confirmed a biceps femoris injury in his left leg. He will follow conservative treatment, will miss the rest of the season, and is expected to be available for the World Cup.

In the 40th minute Yamal won the penalty and took it himself to make it 1-0. Seconds later he did not celebrate, sat down and felt a twinge in the back of his left thigh. Medical staff treated him and he left the pitch, while João Cancelo had earlier gone off with discomfort.

The result all but sealed LaLiga for Hansi Flick's side. With six games to play and 18 points available, they lead Real Madrid by 9 points. There is a head-to-head at home in three matchdays.

Typical recovery windows for hamstring problems vary. Minor strains can take two to three weeks, partial tears four to eight weeks which could endanger the World Cup, and severe cases up to three months which would rule him out.

This is the third injury of his career. He battled pubalgia earlier this season and missed five matches, and a right ankle trauma last term against CD Leganés kept him out for almost a month. In total he has missed 10 Barcelona games through injury and is likely to add around six more.
