Lamine Yamal opines on Barcelona-Julian Alvarez saga: ‘He’s a great player, but I’m happy with the squad’ | OneFootball

The summer transfer window is almost over, with Barcelona now conceding the pursuit of Julian Alvarez, their top target in the market.

Alvarez will be staying at Atletico Madrid this summer, with Barcelona instead choosing to sign a low-cost alternative in Gabriel Jesus.

In the wake of the club’s win over Rayo Vallecano recently, the team’s star player Lamine Yamal was notably asked about Barcelona missing out on Alvarez.

Lamine’s verdict on the Alvarez saga

Lamine offered a balanced response, insisting he is content with the squad Barcelona have assembled.

“Well, I think we’re in a very good state right now, and that’s clear. We’re not short on goals. It’s obvious he’s a great player, but I’m very happy with the squad we have,” he said (h/t SPORT).

It was a mature response from the teenager, who is happy with his teammates and how the squad has been performing since the start of the season.

Yamal himself bagged a brace in Barcelona’s 5-2 win over Rayo Vallecano and his connection with his teammates, including the new signings looked quite promising.

Lamine was also quizzed on suggestions earlier in the season that he appeared unhappy, a narrative that had generated plenty of discussion among supporters and the media.

The youngster quickly shut that down. “People always talk a lot about everything that happens to me, but I’m very happy, I’m very happy and happy to be here too,” he said.

His performance against Rayo backed up those words, with Lamine delivering one of his finest displays of the young season.

Any doubts over his mood or commitment were firmly put to rest on the pitch.

For Barcelona, Yamal’s contentment is a great sign as the club look to capitalise on the strong start they have made to the season.

It will now be interesting to see whether or not the club attempt to go after Alvarez once again when the January transfer window opens in 2027.
