Lamine Yamal takes over as Barcelona's number 10

Lamine Yamal may already be one of the best players in the world but the forward now faces a slightly increased responsibility on his shoulders as the new number 10 at Barcelona.

The winger, who turned 18 three days ago, will receive the iconic shirt in a ceremony as he celebrates the renewal of his contract until 2031, a deal that was announced back in May.

Although he succeeds Ansu Fati, a player who failed to meet the expectations placed upon him as the bearer of that shirt number, Lamine Yamal has the mission to honour the legacy left at the club by names like Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, and Diego Maradona.

Despite his young age, Yamal is already a talisman for the Catalans. In the 2024/25 season, the youngster scored 18 goals and provided 21 assists in 55 matches.
