The Sky Blues narrowly missed out on a play-off place last year, finishing eighth in the table and five points adrift of the top six.

Mark Robins’ side had reached the play-off final 12 months prior, but were unable to repeat that feat in 2024.

The summer transfer window represents an opportunity to make additions to improve their first team squad, with the market open until 30 August.

It is set to be a very competitive Championship campaign ahead, with several clubs eyeing a push for a top two or top six finish.

Here we look at the shrewd transfer Coventry should look to complete this summer to boost their hopes of a place back in the Premier League next year…

Macaulay Langstaff

Macaulay Langstaff would be an excellent addition to Robins’ side for next season.

The 27-year-old made the jump up to League Two quite seamlessly last year, scoring an impressive 28 goals for Notts County as they finished 14th in the table (all stats from Fbref).

Coventry could use the extra firepower up front to give them some more variety in attack.

Ellis Simms and Haji Wright were both great additions last summer, but having someone like Langstaff to provide competition will be healthy for the squad as a whole as well.

The forward is coming into the peak of his career, and this is the kind of move that could help get the Sky Blues over the line.

Having that extra option in attack will be vital for a sustained promotion push, and considering he may reportedly only cost £1.5 million, he is a very affordable alternative to have in the squad.

Coventry were linked with the striker during the January transfer window, so it would make sense for them to reignite that interest again this summer.

While he may not immediately slot into the starting lineup, he could be a natural partner for either Wright or Simms in the front two that Robins prefers.

Harrison Burrows

Harrison Burrows has been heavily linked with a move to Sheffield United this summer after his exceptional campaign at Peterborough United.

However, no agreement has yet been reached between the two clubs for the promising left-sided player.

Burrows is a natural fit to slot into the left wing-back position at Coventry after excelling in League One last year for the Posh.

Jake Bidwell is now into his 30s, and Jay Dasilva has been linked with a move away from the CBS Arena, making it an area the team could use reinforcement in.

Burrows would bring creativity out wide and could bring the attacking threat that the team needs from that flank.

He contributed six goals and 14 assists for Darren Ferguson’s side in the league in the previous campaign, and is ready to make the step up to the Championship.

If Coventry have the funds, then they should do everything in their power to convince Burrows to make the switch to the CBS Arena instead of Bramall Lane.
