The Barcelona presidential campaign has officially begun, with Joan Laporta and Victor Font emerging as the two final candidates vying for the presidency.

Laporta, a two-time president, has already thrown some at his political rival Font, just a day after the start of the official campaign.

The former incumbent Barcelona president also talked about Real Madrid and how continue to receive favours from referees.

Joan Laporta calls Font a technocrat

As part of his campaigning speech (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Laporta started by talking about Font, notably calling him a ‘technocrat’.

In fact, he labelled him and his entire team a technocrat, adding that the vote cannot be won ‘by a computer’.

Laporta even warned that if Font wins, “Barcelona would lead to ruin” and that “Barcelona will be run by a computer, not by hearts.”

Laporta also lambasted Font for his recent comments involving the Negreira case.

“Not retracting his comments about Negreira’s Barça is obtuse, stubborn. If he doesn’t retract them, that’s his problem. He was out of line, it’s disrespectful to Barça fans,” he said.

He went on to elaborate on his decision to call Font a technocrat.

“Font runs Barça on his computer, while the Barça we’ve all built is carried in our hearts, through hard work every day. They’re a bunch of know-it-alls who think they know everything,” he said.

Finally, Laporta also claimed that Font has no project in his mind, even accusing him of plagiarising ideas.

“It’s perfectly legitimate for him to make all the proposals he wants, because his sporting proposal is neither present nor expected,” he said.

“Most of the proposals he makes, if not all of them, since he attended the statute reform meetings, he heard them there and then copied them onto his computer to claim them as his own,” he added.

Laporta also talked about Real Madrid and their latest win over 2-1, stating that the final goal should have been disallowed.

“That final goal should have been disallowed because it was a foul beforehand. It happened to us at Anoeta; Lamine scored and it was disallowed for a foul by Olmo.

“But some of us get the calls we want, others don’t. It’s always the same for Real Madrid. We all want luck, but there are people who help them get it,” he concluded.
