Last chance saloon for Rasmus Hojlund this pre-season

Rasmus Hojlund was a major source of frustration for Ruben Amorim last season, with the Dane scoring a meagre four times in the Premier League last season.

He looked like a player shorn of confidence, and apart from the lack of goals, his work-rate, general gameplay and link-up play were quite poor as well.

INEOS initially tried to sell the Denmark international, hoping to secure either Liam Delap or Viktor Gyokeres as a possible replacement.

But nothing arrived apart from loan offers and the duo moved to rivals Chelsea and Arsenal respectively. And with the club spending big on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, another massive outlay on a new No.9 is not expected.

Rasmus to stay

Not without player sales. And with Serie A sides yet to submit a concrete proposal, the United head coach is contemplating over keeping the 22-year-old at Old Trafford.

The Sun have claimed that the Portuguese tactician is set to hand the United No.9 a last shot at redemption during the three-match Premier League Summer Series in the United States.

He feels with the added creativity of Cunha and Mbeumo, the ex-Atalanta starlet can still come good.

“MANCHESTER United have ruled out breaking the bank to bring in a new No9.

“But with United’s spending on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo having already topped £130m this summer, the club is not in a position to go large unless there are significant exits.

“And the decision not to push the boat out opens the door for under-pressure Rasmus Hojlund to stake his claim during the three-match Premier League Summer Series tournament against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton.

“United chief Ruben Amorim, though, looks set to give the Dane, 22, a final chance to show he can be the Old Trafford spearhead.”

Fans will be hoping that Alejandro Garnacho’s sale could open the doors for a possible move for Ollie Watkins. There is very little faith in Hojlund among the fanbase at the moment.

There is a chance that a loan move for a striker is hastily arranged or even a free agent brought in to add numbers up top.
