The January transfer window ended yesterday and some late deals may have slipped under the radar. Here are some deadline day moves you might have missed…
Tyrique George to Everton, loan
Tyrique George completed a loan move to Everton after the Toffee’s submitted a deal sheet before the 7pm deadline. George will play for Everton for the remainder of the season, with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.
George has 12 goal contributions in 37 matches since breaking into Chelsea’s first team last season and is expected to fill in for the injured Jack Grealish. The 19-year-old could make his debut against Fulham this weekend.
Angel Gomes to Wolves, loan
Wolves were one of the busier clubs on deadline day, as they completed the loan signing of Angel Gomes until the end of the season. Gomes joined from Marseille and could join Wolves permanently in the summer should the club exercise his €7 million option to buy.
On the signing of Gomes, manager Rob Edwards said: “I’m delighted… He gives us real quality in that midfield area and it’s a really exciting signing for the football club.”
Adil Aouchiche to Schalke, £17.5 million
In order to accommodate Nilson Angulo’s move to Sunderland, Adil Aouchiche had to be sold. The Frenchman has joined Bundesliga 2 side Schalke on an 18-month deal.
Aouchiche spent the first half of the season on loan at Aberdeen, where he made 30 appearances across all competitions.
Brajan Gruda to RB Leipzig, loan
Early on deadline day, Brighton confirmed the departure of highly rated prospect Brajan Gruda, who has joined Bundesliga side RB Leipzig on loan until the end of the season.
There is no option or obligation to buy, meaning the German winger will return to Brighton in the summer. The move came as a surprise as Brighton lack depth in areas where Gruda can play.
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler explained that Gruda wants regular minutes and Brighton “are not able to guarantee him that in the second half of the season.”
Kalvin Phillips to Sheffield United, loan
After playing just seven minutes at Manchester City this season, Kalvin Phillips has joined Sheffield United on loan until the end of the campaign. The 30-year-old received interest from other clubs but chose to go back to Yorkshire in the hope of rejuvenating his career.
Adam Armstrong to Wolves, £7 million
Another deadline day appointment for Wolves was Adam Armstrong, who signed a three-and-a-half year deal. The English forward cost £7 million plus £2 million in add-ons and will replace Jorgen Strand Larson in attack, who Wolves sold to Crystal Palace for £48 million.
The 28-year-old has scored 11 goals so far this season in the Championship for Southampton. Following the move, Armstrong said: “I’m honoured… All I can say to the fans is they’re going to get 100 per cent from me every time I wear the shirt, which is the main thing.”
