New América signing Fernando Madrigal has spoken at his pride and disbelief at joining the Azulcrema at the ripe age of 29.
Madrigal’s career has mostly been outside the top flight in Mexico, until last term when he excelled at Querétaro on loan from Atlético San Luis.
However with his contract expiring with Los Atléticos, América have swooped to land the defensive midfielder on a free transfer.
The León native was unveiled by Las Águilas on Friday, after much speculation that he was on manager Santiago Solari’s radar.
“I did not believe it, that the biggest club in Mexico notices you is something difficult to believe,” Madrigal said, per MARCA Claro.
“I had only one tournament in Querétaro and an established year in first division, so the fact that Club América is looking for you can be almost unbelievable.
“Obviously the nerves are because you do not go to any club, so I am very excited to be here and I really want to transcend.
“I have a lot of commitment to the people who brought me and I am sure that it will go well.”
Madigral is the second signing for América ahead of the 2021 Apertura after Miguel Layún rejoined the club last week.
