A stoppage-time equaliser from Brian Brobbey earned Sunderland a dramatic 2-2 draw against Premier League leaders Arsenal, ending the visitors’ run of 10 straight victories in all competitions.

The newly-promoted side struck first through Dan Ballard, who fired home from close range after Nordi Mukiele’s knockdown to become the first player to score against Arsenal in over eight matches.

The Gunners struggled to find their rhythm in the first half but improved after the break. Bukayo Saka drew them level on 54 minutes, drilling past Robin Roefs at the near post after fine link-up play involving Mikel Merino and Eberechi Eze.

Arsenal’s pressure eventually told when Leandro Trossard cut inside and unleashed a thunderous strike into the top corner to complete the turnaround with just over 15 minutes remaining.

However, just as it looked like Mikel Arteta’s side would take all three points back to London, Brobbey capitalised on a loose ball deep into stoppage time, poking past David Raya to snatch a point for the hosts.

The result extends Sunderland’s unbeaten home run to six matches and lifts them into third place, while Arsenal remain top but miss the chance to open up a bigger gap in the title race.
