Giovani dos Santos became the latest victim of Nicolás Sosa as León maintained their five-point lead at the top of eLiga MX with a 3-2 win over América.

It was a pretty tight affair until the half-hour mark when a dinked cross to the back post from Ángel Mena was met by the head of Jean Meneses to put the ‘visitors’ in front.

Sosa then doubled León’s lead himself in the 52nd minute.

The Uruguayan played a give-and-go with Joel Campbell before hammering the ball into the roof of the net from 10 yards out.

And Los Panzas Verdes made it 3-0 eight minutes from time when Jesús Godínez’s shot was saved by América goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa only for the León player to tap home his own rebound.

América midfielder Sebastián Córdova did manage to net a late brace for Las Águilas but it was a case of too little, too late.

The victory keeps unbeaten León on top of the pile ahead of Pachuca after 11 games, while América sit in seventh after their fifth defeat of the campaign.
