The story about Brazilian side Flamengo being interested in Joao Felix didn’t sound too convincing to us at first, but the chatter has continued, and we’re starting to take it more seriously.
We would always suspect that a South American team would struggle to pay the Portugal star’s wages, but Flamengo are a huge team and may see this as a big chance to make a global impact, especially if they can get the marquee signing on board in time for the Club World Cup next month.
After the initial whispers over the weekend, there’s more information today from the well connected Rudy Galetti, this time writing for TeamTalk. His piece, published this afternoon, claims that Felix is a “concrete target” for the Brazilian giants, who have already started talks with the player’s entourage.
Filipe Luis, former Chelsea player and Felix’s old teammate from Atletico Madrid, is Flamengo manager and apparently an important part of the move to convince the attacker to leave Europe. The Brazilian giants are also looking to snap up Jorginho on a free transfer.
Other interest in Felix seems to be coming from his old team Benfica, as well as Inter Miami in the USA. One things seems for sure – he won’t be staying at AC Milan, where his star has faded rapidly after a bright start. It looks as though the Italian side will be looking for a major summer rebuild after a brutally disappointing season, and flushing Felix away will be a major part of that.
Signing the Portuguese a year ago was a huge mistake, and we just have to hope that one of these teams who are interested can bail us out.
