Despite fitness concerns surrounding Lauren James before Euro 2025, the Lioness has insisted that she is ready for the tournament and skipping it was never an option.
Lauren James has been fighting to recover from injury ahead of the Euros this summer and much to the relief of England fans, the superstar forward has returned to full health just in time.
After picking up a hamstring injury in April during a Nations League clash against Belgium, James didn’t play in the remainder of the tournament and England feared the worst for one of their brightest stars.
When she spoke to the media this week, the 23-year-old insisted that she was always going to make a return to Sarina Wiegman’s squad before the plane leaves at the beginning of July.
“I always had in my head that I was going to make it. Obviously I didn’t tell people that. I took it day by day. Lucy [Bronze] and I always kept in touch. She always would say, ‘You’ll be there.’ Then obviously having that support, it always makes you kind of think, ‘Oh, yeah, I’ll be there as well.'” James said.
“I don’t really feel pressure. I think everyone’s here for a reason. Everyone brings different qualities. That’s what makes a team.”
James is set to make her Euros debut at the Championship next month, after first breaking onto the international scene in the 2023 World Cup.
At the World Cup, James managed three goals and three assists in just five appearances and since the tournament she has become a regular feature in the England setup.
“Obviously, you learn from things that may have happened in the first tournament,” James said. “You can take your learnings into this tournament.”
James has returned to full training already and barring any major setbacks, the Chelsea star is expected to start out wide for the group stage games.
While some big names have retired from international football ahead of Euro 2o25, younger players such as James coming through will give the Lionesses plenty of hope.
England are 4/1 to win the Euros according to the best UK betting sites.
