Barclays Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea needed a stoppage-time strike to beat Everton, over 56,000 saw Arsenal put five past Spurs.

Chelsea left it very, very late to take all three points against Everton, Lauren James with a dramatic stoppage-time decider from distance as her side stayed seven points clear at the top.

Maelys Mpome’s close-range header was saved by Courtney Brosnan just before it crossed the line, as Chelsea struggled to threaten the Toffees’ goal during the first half.

Everton took the lead away to Chelsea for the second week running, this time Kelly Gago with a shot across Hannah Hampton and inside the far post.

Chelsea were back on level terms little more than ten minutes later, Mayra Ramirez with a shot on the turn eight yards out.

Aggie Beeveer-Jones saw her header hit the Everton crossbar and missed a golden chance at the far post.

But in added time James found space 25 yards out and hit her shot into the far bottom corner for a late winner.

Arsenal ran out 5-0 winners over Tottenham Hotspur in front of over 56,000 at the Emirates, to stay third in the league.

Alessia Russo’s glancing header gave the Gunners a 15th-minute lead, Kyra Cooney-Cross with the delivery after a slip by Hayley Raso.

Mariona Caldentey doubled the lead ten minutes from half time, into the corner after her initial attempt was blocked.

Frida Leonardsen Maanum fired in Arsenal’s third early in the second half from outside the box and before the hour mark a breakaway move ended with a second goal of the day from Russo.

Kim Little set up Emily Fox for her late strike into the top corner from outside the box.

Manchester United’s Elisabeth Terland scored twice in a 3-1 victory over bottom side Crystal Palace, to remain in second spot.

Terland had the Reds ahead inside ten minutes and was denied by the post shortly afterwards, Palace were level seven minutes before the break when Mille Gejl with the finish from a Lily Woodham through ball.

Terland had United back in front just after the hour mark, taking advantage of a deflected pass running her way to go past keeper Milla-Maj Majasaari and rolling the ball home.

The hosts survived a big defensive scare before Grace Clinton wrapped up the in, beating the keeper to Ella Toone’s free kick and heading into the empty net.

Leicester City stepped further clear of any relegation fears with a fine result over Aston Villa.

Janice Cayman forced the Foxes in front from a Sophie Howard ball before the half-hour mark, two goals in as many minutes soon after the interval securing precious points for the hosts.

Cayman struck a superb volley from the edge of the box to double the lead, Julie Thibaud than heading in from Asmita Ale’s corner.

West Ham closed in on fifth-placed Brighton after seeing them off 3-1 with a quickfire brace after the break.

Shekiera Martinez netted early on for the Hammers but Nikita Parris equalised only three minutes later.

Two goals in a five-minute spell midway through the second half put West Ham in control, Riko Ueki restoring the lead and Viviane Asseyi scoring from the spot when brought down in the box by Rachel McLauchlan.

Manchester City won the evening match with Liverpool to finish the day still two points outside the top three.

Liverpool should have had the lead but Rebecca Knaak cleared off the line from Ceri Holland, Man City instead scoring first with Mary Fowler finding Khadija Shaw who produced a clinical finish from a shot on the turn.

The same pair combined again close to the break, Shaw taking the cross down and swivelling to fire into the corner of the net.

Jill Roord made it 3-0 via the post after her first shot was charged down, Gracie Prior’s cross-shot dropped into the corner of Liverpool’s net.

In added time, Tegan Mikcah tipped a shot from City’s Kerolin onto the post.
