England bounced back in style with a dominant 4-0 win over the Netherlands, getting their Euro title defence firmly back on track.
After the disappointment of their 2-1 loss to France, the Lionesses returned to the Stadion Letzigrund needing a response - and they delivered against a Dutch side that had comfortably beaten Wales in their opener.
Lauren James opened the scoring after 22 minutes, firing into the bottom right corner from the edge of the box following a brilliant long-range pass from goalkeeper Hannah Hampton.
Just before half-time, Georgia Stanway doubled the lead with a thunderous strike from distance that flew into the bottom corner.
Alessia Russo looked to have made it three early in the second half, but her goal was chalked off for offside.
It didn’t matter for long though - James grabbed her second of the night on the hour mark, reacting quickest after Ella Toone’s shot was parried. Toone then added one of her own just seven minutes later, slotting home to round off a strong attacking display.
The win puts Sarina Wiegman’s side firmly in control of their group. The Netherlands offered little in response and now face a tough test against France in their final group game, while England will be confident heading into their clash with Wales.
