Laurent Abergel suffers right ACL rupture before Nice debut | OneFootball

Laurent Abergel has suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, OGC Nice said on Monday. The midfielder was hurt in a pre-season friendly against Cagliari and has yet to play a competitive game for the club.

The 33-year-old left the field in the 17th minute of Saturday's match, having been injured 10 minutes earlier. Tests carried out over the weekend confirmed the diagnosis.

He will require surgery and faces several months out. Olivier Pantaloni will be without his experienced midfielder during his recovery.

Released by FC Lorient after seven seasons, the former captain signed a three-year contract with Nice this summer.

Abergel had started all of Nice's warm-up matches and had quickly settled. He must now wait to truly begin his Nice adventure.
