After lifting another Copa Sudamericana and following Lanús’s Torneo Clausura exit to Tigre, Lautaro Acosta ended his historic spell with the club and announced his retirement. The forward said goodbye on social media and aimed criticism at the board.

According to Radiogol.com, he said in an Instagram message that it was time to say goodbye to the club he called home for nearly 30 years, having joined aged eight and leaving as a man and father. He said he was departing for reasons beyond him and framed it as a see you later, stressing that the bond goes beyond any decision. He also insisted he never showed disrespect as had been suggested, adding that the choice not to keep him was made by the directors.

The post followed discussions with the hierarchy about his future at Lanús. He and his brother Rodrigo were initially offered to coach the seventh and sixth divisions, which did not land well, then after they later accepted, the club withdrew the offer after alleged remarks that displeased the leadership and told them they were out.

Rodrigo Acosta will now work with former Lanús player Ezequiel Carboni in the Selectivo at Talleres de Córdoba. Fabio Radaelli will take over as Lanús’s amateur football coordinator.

Acosta used his farewell to thank family, friends and team-mates for making him a better professional and person. He told supporters their love cannot be repaid and said he gave everything to defend the badge.
