Inter captain Lautaro Martinez is set to cut his holiday short and return to Italy later in this coming week to replace the injured Mehdi Taremi, according to reports on Sunday morning.
The 2023-24 Capocannoniere had originally been due to return to the city of Milan on August 8, however, following the injury that Taremi picked up earlier this week, he will now return on Tuesday instead, two days earlier than originally planned.
After a strong start to life in Nerazzurri colours, scoring five goals in his first three appearances for the club, Taremi had been in line to begin the Serie A season in the starting line-up.
However, the club confirmed that he has picked up a muscular injury and will be sidelined for a few weeks, which will likely keep him out of the season opener against Genoa on Saturday week.
Inter will now rely on 2023-24 starters Martinez and Marcus Thuram to be fit and ready to go in time for the Genoa clash on August 17.
