Il Toro is back, leading the Nerazzurri faithful once again. 46 days after the injury he suffered in Norway, Lautaro Martínez returned with an immediate impact. Just 60 seconds were enough to make it 1–0 against Roma and blow the roof off San Siro: trademark stuff from Lautaro. Then, he completed his brace in the second half: once again assisted by Marcus Thuram, this time to make it 3–1. Two hugely significant goals in the 5–2 victory over Roma, strikes that carried plenty of weight.
First and foremost, it was a crucial match for Inter in their league campaign: after 31 matchdays of this Serie A season, the Nerazzurri now sit on 72 points. Then there are the remarkable numbers produced by the Argentine striker: the league’s top scorer with 16 goals, and now Inter’s third-highest scorer of all time with 173 goals, clear of Roberto Boninsegna. It is also his fifth season in Nerazzurri colours with at least 15 league goals, and lifts him to the joint third-highest Argentine scorer in Serie A history with 131 goals (alongside Paulo Dybala, behind only Gabriel Batistuta and Hernán Crespo).
More extraordinary numbers, delivered on a night of real importance in front of a magnificent crowd.
