Paulo Sousa has heaped praise on Brazilian winger Lázaro as Flamengo beat Botafogo on Wednesday to climb into second place.
The 19-year-old’s clipped through ball set up Gabriel Barbosa for the Mengao’s second goal of the night and manager Sousa was quick to praise the tricky winger.
“Lazaro is a player that I have been paying close attention to,” said the 51-year-old.
“He caught our attention and was always going to have opportunities to play. He’s a player we had visual and written references to.
“He is a super-focused guy, super intense and willing to understand every piece of advice we give him.”
Yesterday’s win has extended the Rubo-Negro’s undefeated run against Botafogo to four years as they bounced back from their Supercopa do Brasil disappointment.
