Lazio are plotting a defensive revamp ahead next season, and their scouts have been extremely active in South America, particularly in Argentina.

Lazio May Need Two New Defenders This Summer

The Biancocelesti could part ways with their two top centre-backs in Alessio Romagnoli and Mario Gila, not to mention Samuel Gigot. Therefore, Oliver Provstgaard and Patric could be the only remaining players in the department.

Diogo Leite No Longer a Priority for Lazio

In recent months, Diogo Leite emerged as the primary target to join the Italian capital side. The 27-year-old’s contract with Union Berlin will expire at the end of the season, so he’ll be available on a free transfer.

But according to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), talks between the two parties have stalled recently, with the Aquile now pursuing other targets, including four Argentines.

Lautaro Rivero

The Roman newspaper reveals the young profiles who landed on Angelo Fabiani’s shortlist, beginning with Lautaro Rivero, who has already been confirmed as a Lazio target by the Argentine media.

The left-footed player is a 22-year-old centre-back who rose through the ranks of River Plate, and has already earned his senior debut with Argentina last October. His contract runs until December 2028, and his market value should be around €10 million.

Lautaro Di Lollo

Moving to the opposite side of Buenos Aires, Lautaro Di Lollo is a Boca Juniors youth product who became a member of the first team in 2024. He has now established himself as a regular starter the the South American giants. The 22-year-old is right-footed and can also play at right-back. His value is believed to be €7-8 million, and his contract is valid until 2029.

Tobias Ramirez

Tobias Ramirez is Rivero’s younger teammate at River Plate, who have only recently acquired his services from Argentinos Juniors for €4.3 million. The 19-year-old signed a contract until December and he is identified as one of the most exciting young defenders in the country.

Kevin Lomanaco

Finally, Kevin Lomanaco is the most experienced profile on the list. The 24-year-old began his career at Lanus and then had other experiences at Lanus and Brazilian club RB Bragantino, before returning to Argentina in 2024 through the gates of Independiente. This year, he has been included in the Best XI team of the Torneo di Apertura, Argentina’s first half of the season tournament.

Like Di Lollo, the La Plata native holds Italian citizenship, which would facilitate a move to Serie A. His contract with Independiente is valid until the end of 2028.
