Lazio veteran Pedro Rodriguez confirmed he’s leaving the club at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, but is keen to do so on a high note.

The Background

The Spaniard is one of the most decorated players of his generation, having won the biggest honors in football, including the World Cup, the European Championship, the Champions League and the Premier League. But at the age of 38, Father Time is beginning to catch up with the versatile attacker.

Pedro has been plying his trade at Lazio since making the extremely rare crosstown switch from Roma in 2021. Last season, he was arguably the club’s best performer throughout the season, and his brace against Inter Milan on the penultimate day of the season indirectly gifted the Scudetto to Napoli.

Pedro Will Leave Lazio at the End of the Season

But while his heroics last season convinced him to extend his stay in the Italian capital, it appears that the two parties have now realized that this story has reached its closing act. Following Thursday’s stalemate in Pisa, Pedro announced he’s leaving the club at the end of the season in his interview with Sky Sport Italia (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).

I always want to help the team. This is definitely my last season at Lazio. I want to do well, make the most of every moment, every match, and leave Lazio on a high note.

Guiding Lazio to Europe

The former Barcelona and Chelsea star insisted that his objective is to help Lazio gain a spot in Europe next season.

I hope to be in Europe, which is where I think this team deserves to be. This must be my goal, but also Lazio’s. You need to have the ambition to grow, in every way. We all have to work towards this. It’s a pleasure to be here.

What’s Next for Pedro?

Pedro admitted he’s uncertain about his next career step, leaving the door open for another playing experience elsewhere.

How many more years will I play? I don’t know, I don’t know. It’s difficult for me (laughs). Every day that passes I’m getting closer to retirement.
