Lazio backers ‘have approached’ Tilman Fertitta over ownership

Milano Finanza reports that a group of Lazio-supporting business figures, unaffiliated with the club’s hierarchy, have approached Italian-American businessman Tilman Fertitta about a possible change of ownership. The Texas native has owned the Houston Rockets since 2017.

Claudio Lotito has run the club since 2004, but is now facing the most turbulent spell of his tenure, with fans in open revolt. He is accused of putting personal interests first and of leaving Lazio unable to compete with Serie A’s elite.

Organised groups have stayed away from home matches since January, and ahead of the new season they have escalated their protest. They are refusing to buy season tickets, cancelling TV subscriptions, boycotting Lotito’s businesses and vowing not to vote for his Forza Italia candidates.

While Lotito remains defiant in public, those measures could cost the club around 20 million in revenue, increasing pressure on his administration.

His recent purchase of Reggina has also offered supporters a potential exit route, as rules would prevent him owning both clubs if the Calabrians are promoted from Serie D to Serie C, possibly by the end of 2026/27.

Fertitta has been linked with financially troubled Sheffield Wednesday, but he said, via La Lazio Siamo Noi, that laws bar him from buying an Italian club while serving as US ambassador to Italy for the next two and a half years. He added that he would love to own a team in Italy once eligible, without naming any city.
