Lazio Closely Following River Plate Striker Ahead of Attacking Revamp

Lazio are still keeping close tabs on River Plate youngster Agustin Ruberto, who was already on their shortlist in January.

Why Lazio Need an Attacking Overhaul

The Italian capital side is preparing to shake things up in the attacking department. Despite earning an immediate starting berth in Maurizio Sarri’s lineup, Daniel Maldini’s future remains uncertain, as the club has yet to decide whether to exercise the option to buy him or send him back to Atalanta.

On the other hand, Petar Ratkov has yet to convince the manager or the fanbase. Moreover, Tijjani Noslin and Boulaye Dia could both be on their way out in the summer. Therefore, the Biancocelesti are desperate for attacking reinforcement. After all, no Lazio player has managed to score more than three goals so far this season; a shocking stat that should be enough to raise the alarm bells at Formello.

Lazio Following Agustin Ruberto

According to Argentine sources (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Aquile continue to monitor the development of Agustin Ruberto, who is considered one of the most promising young centre-forward in the South American nation. The 20-year-old currently represents Argentina’s U20 side, but had earned 32 caps at the U17 level, scoring 25 goals in the process.

Ruberto’s Background & Stats

The San Fernando native earned a promotion to River Plate’s first team in January 2024. However, his development was interrupted by an ACL injury in February that ruled him out of action for more than seven months.

Therefore, he has only made 21 appearances with the club’s senior squad, scoring two goals. The stern competition represented by fellow strikers Joaquín Freitas and Maximiliano Salas has also limited his chances.

Transfermarkt estimates Ruberto’s value at €2 million, while the source reveals that his contract includes a release clause worth €35 million. Therefore, River Plate’s asking price is certainly somewhere in the middle. Lazio continue to watch the player closely, but have yet to make a concrete approach.
