Lazio provided official updates on the condition of Nuno Tavares, who is now set for another spell on the sidelines.
The Portuguese is no stranger to muscle issues, as he suffered a whopping seven injuries last season. The 25-year-old had been healthy since the start of the season, but this positive run came to a sudden halt this week. The left-back skipped Thursday’s double training session, so he underwent clinical tests on Friday.
The official Lazio website has now confirmed that Tavares has indeed suffered a Grade I injury in his left calf. Therefore, the former Arsenal player is expected to miss around 20 days of action. The official note also provided updates on the club’s other injured players.
This afternoon, after a consultation between the medical staff—Prof. Ivo Pulcini, Prof. Fabio Rodia, and the club physician Dr. Italo Leo—the following was announced: Samuel Gigot continues his rehabilitation program in France. Nuno Tavares suffered a low-grade muscle tear in his left soleus. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Nicolò Rovella and Valentin Castellanos carried out specific differentiated work. Matteo Cancellieri performed rehabilitation work in the swimming pool. Updates will follow based on the players’ medical progress.
On a more positive note, Luca Pellegrini has returned to group training for the first time in three weeks, reveals La Lazio Siamo Noi. The Italian had pulled a muscle during the Aquile’s 3-0 win in Genoa. The former Juventus player will be keen to receive a call-up for this weekend’s clash against his old employers, but he’s unlikely to earn a starting spot.
The source expects one between Elseid Hysaj and Adam Marusic to be switched to the left-back spot, while the latter is expected to be included in the starting lineup, whether on the right or left flank. The young Oliver Provstgaard is also an option for the left-back role, although he’s originally a central defender.
