AC Milan have suddenly overtaken Napoli and Atalanta in the race for wantaway Lazio defender Mario Gila.

Mario Gila Destined to Leave Lazio

The 25-year-old only has one year left on his Lazio contract, and has no desire to negotiate a renewal with Claudio Lotito and Co. Therefore, the two parties agreed to part ways, with the Biancocelesti setting their asking price at €30 million. Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on the situation, as they will receive 50% of Lazio’s profit.

Napoli & Atalanta Fail To Reach the Finish Line

Napoli were the first to make a concrete move, agreeing personal terms with Gila’s agent, Alejandro Camano. However, the Partenopei couldn’t close a deal with Lazio, as their offer fell short of Lotito’s asking price. On the other hand, Atalanta were able to make a breakthrough in their talks with the Aquile after putting €22m plus €3m on the table, but they failed to sway the player.

AC Milan Launch Sudden Onslaught for Gila

Over the past 24 hours or so, Milan have placed themselves as the frontrunners following a spectacular blitz. According to several reliable sources in the Italian media, the Rossoneri and Gila have an agreement on personal terms, as the Spaniard is ready to sign a five-year contract with a yearly net salary of €5 million.

Ruben Amorin Convinced Gila to Join Milan

Italian journalists Alfredo Pedulla, Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano have all confirmed the news, while Fabrizio Romano added that new Milan manager Ruben Amorim played an integral role, as he was personally involved in the negotiations.

Milan still have to strike an agreement with Lazio, but they’re reportedly willing to satisfy Lotito with an enticing offer. The club-to-club talks are expected to start between Monday and Tuesday.
